Program Information

Please read the important information below about our programs.
Student Program
Trip One Dates: We are finalizing the 2026 trip dates.

The trip will run either June 26th - July 12th or July 4th - July 19th.

This trip is open to students who have completed 6th - 9th grade.
If seriously interested in the program for this summer, we ask that parents block off the dates of June 26th - July 19th. This allows us to ensure that our program coincides the local students' two week vacation in July. We are currently waiting for the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education to publish their 2026 school calendar.

Trip Two Dates: We are not offering a second trip this year.
This trip is only available if when we have already filled Trip One.

Family Program
Trip Dates: This trip usually runs in late July.

(This trip is open to adults & families with children ages 7+ years)

Trip Description: Our journey takes us into the heart of the reservation and into the homes of skilled artisans who make their livings as weavers, carvers and painters. We will learn about their natural dyes, the traditional festivals and the stories behind their masks. We’ll also journey to the coast, with Borucan guides, to experience the tradition of dying yarn with the mollusk, Murex. Tour participants will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of hands-on workshops; mask painting, weaving, drum making, and traditional cooking. We’ll also visit the artisan workshops, the local museum, the waterfall and immerse ourselves in a fascinating land seldom visited by tourists. Participants will stay in the modest homes of our Borucan hosts. For a slight additional cost, families may stay in the very modest local "hotel." Depending on the number of child participants, we will also plan opportunities for the children to make connections with the local youth.

Family Trip Cost
The cost of the Family program is dependent on the number of participants who sign up. Participants are required to purchase their own round trip travel arrangements to Costa Rica. The program includes all lodging, food, land transportation and our excursion to the coast during our program dates. We will meet at a specific hotel in San Jose. The cost of the program includes the hotel stay.
