Students are encouraged to bring spending money for themselves and small gifts for their Borucan buddies.

Family Program

Trip Dates: August 2019. Dates are flexible
(This trip is open to adults & families with children ages 6+ years)

Trip Description: Our journey takes us into the heart of the reservation and into the homes of skilled artisans who make their livings as weavers, carvers and painters. We will learn about their natural dyes, their festivals and the stories behind their masks. We’ll also journey to the coast, with Borucan guides, to experience the tradition of dying yarn with the mollusk, Murex. Tour participants will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of hands-on workshops; mask painting, weaving, drum making, and traditional cooking. We’ll also visit the artisan workshops, the local museum, the waterfall and immerse ourselves in a fascinating land seldom visited by tourists. Participants will stay in the modest homes of our Borucan hosts. For a slight additional cost, families may stay in the very modest local "hotel." Depending on the number of child participants, we will also plan opportunities for the children to make connections with the local youth.

Family Trip Cost

The cost of the Family program is dependent on the number of participants who sign up. There must be at least 6 participants in order to offer the program. Participants are required to purchase their own round trip travel arrangements to Costa Rica. The program includes all lodging, food, land transportation and our excursion to the coast during our program dates. We will meet at a specific hotel in San Jose. The cost of the program includes the hotel stay.

Please email costapica@yahoo.com for more specific information on price and itinerary. Questions are welcome and encouraged.
